My first bike was my brother Harold's blue bike, the boys' version of the one in the picture. It was not a hand-me-down; he just didn't use it much and I did. The first bike I remember buying came from Sears used and was "repaired" by the local high-school basketball star. I learned to do repairs after that. I have owned many bikes since then, and they mean freedom to me. We did not have a car in my childhood, and our little town never had transit. I got around anyhow, and I still cherish that capacity. Thank you for posting this.
